Tudor showcased a number of interesting new products at this year's Watches & Wonders. One of the most important new releases is the Black Bay Pro. The watch house also introduced the two-tone Black Bay GMT and Black Bay Chronograph, as well as new colour schemes, as well as Black Bay S&G decorative dials and new sizes. We dive in and take a closer look at what Tudor has to offer this year.
Black Bay Pro The Black Bay Pro pays homage to the watchmaker's heritage of adventure and exploration. The 39mm Slim Pro is a rarity in the watch world today, primarily a tool watch. Practical features include square yellow "snowflake" hands, a solid fixed steel bezel, a water resistance of 200 m and a 70-hour power reserve, thanks to the MT5652 movement. MT5652 has time jump display and date function.
Unlike other Black Bay models, the crown has a new design for better grip. In addition, the hour-markers on the dial are made of monolithic luminous ceramic, highlighting the technical aesthetics of the watch. The watch comes with a classic studded strap, a black and yellow NATO strap (which seems to be by far the most popular), or a rustic leather strap. This watch is not suitable for operation with children's gloves. It begs to be worn and pushed to the limit, especially with the help of its COSC-certified movement. At this year's W&W 2022, this Black Bay Professional Edition is undoubtedly a popular product of Tudor.
Black Bay Chrono S&G The Black Bay Chrono now features a new color scheme that emphasizes legibility through contrasting sub-dials. This is combined with a domed champagne sunburst dial with black subdials and vice versa. The gold fixed bezel features a matte black anodized aluminum dial and gold markers. Together with the gold buttons and crown, it makes this watch a versatile piece of jewelry for both men and women - especially when worn with a two-tone bracelet.
If you want a masculine look, pair it with a black jacquard fabric strap or a dark brown leather strap. It is powered by the powerful MT5813 automatic movement with column wheel and vertical clutch.
Black Bay GMT TUDOR has added two-tone steel and gold to its Black Bay GMT. With its warm tones and contrasting colors, this watch is more for a special taste than an all-around watch that will please everyone. Standout features include a gold crown and bezel that contrasts with the stainless steel case. The bidirectional rotating bezel is in yellow gold with black and brown anodized aluminum inserts. When I took a closer look at this watch, I was impressed that it really seemed to deform depending on the choice of strap. In this case, a NATO or leather strap would of course be the most appropriate, making the watch more balanced and stylish, although the two-tone strap certainly makes a statement.
Black Bay 31/36/39/41 S&G For many, these watches are a door opener, as they give Black Bay a more neutral and feminine touch. The new timepieces offer a very good range of sizes, dials, and even bezels set with diamonds. These models feature new stainless steel and yellow gold cases with solid domed crowns. Also, unlike the brushed version before, the crown is now polished. Again, this is in line with the current two-tone trend, giving fans of Black Bay Bay some choice.
Another element that contributes to the flexibility of these models is the five-link bracelet and quick-adjust clasp. What makes this new collection special is the decorative dial in champagne or anthracite tones. The decorative dial shows the stars with four stylized dots on the face. Those who prefer it more glamorous can also opt for the diamond in hour-mark form.
Finally, the design of the new COSC-certified movement MT5201 is tailor-made for small watches. The in-house movement is available in a variety of styles, with different power reserves depending on the size of the case. The smaller watch uses the MT5201 and has a 50-hour power reserve. Others are powered by MT54 (Medium) or MT56 (Large), both of which offer a solid 70-hour power reserve.
W&W 2022 Tudor Highlights: Summary There are already signs that the Black Bay Pro will appeal to most Tudor fans. It's hard to imagine how Tudor could pay more homage to their adventurous spirit than to launch the rugged Pro. With its nod to the Rolex Explorer II and Reference 1655, as well as its retro styling, it's likely to please longtime fans of the brand as well.
Other innovations in the Black Bay collection are reflected in a more diverse approach, including the expansion of unisex watches. As we've seen with Vacheron Constantin and Rolex this year, women's watches are attracting more and more attention - a trend we hope will continue.
