ATLANTA - Paul Millsap played like one of the leagues best players. Now, hell wait to see if hes picked for his second straight All-Star game.Millsap had 28 points and 15 rebounds, five other Atlanta players scored in double figures, and the Hawks stretched their franchise-record winning streak to 17 games in a row with a 113-102 victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday night.Paul was aggressive, said teammate Al Horford, who also had a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds. When he plays like that, were tough to beat.Atlanta (38-8) has won 31 of 33 and leads the Eastern Conference by a commanding seven games. This was a bit tougher than expected against the struggling Nets, who kept it close most of the way.The Hawks pulled away in the final quarter, leading by as many as 15. Millsap finished off Brooklyns last run with a 3-pointer from the corner with 2:34 remaining, pushing Atlanta to a 109-98 edge.Millsap, who was more of a role player in Utah, had taken a lead since signing with the Hawks. He earned his first All-Star appearance a year ago and is expected to be among at least three Atlanta players getting in when the East reserves are announced Thursday night. Horford and Jeff Teague are favoured to get in, and Kyle Korver could make it as well.Weve definitely got a lot of guys who are deserving, Millsap said. Its going to be tough if one of those guys doesnt make it.Joe Johnson led the Nets with 26 points. It wasnt enough to prevent Brooklyns 11th loss in 13 games.Thats why theyve won 17 in a row: theyve produced every night consistently and their defence had been consistent every night, Nets coach Lionel Hollins said. We had some stuff that gave them trouble, but they kept scoring and we couldnt stop them.Korver had 17 points for the Hawks, connecting on five 3-pointers and having another taken away with a video review showed he shot after a foul was committed on a teammate. Teague and Dennis Schroder had 13 apiece, while DeMarre Carroll added 12. Atlanta outrebounded the Nets 45-35.Brook Lopez scored 18 for Brooklyn off the bench, and Jarrett Jack chipped in with 14 points and 13 assists. The Hawks got off to a sloppy start, committing six turnovers in the first 7 minutes. But they seized control before the break, closing the second quarter on a 21-9 run that sent them to the locker room with their biggest lead of the half, 64-53.Atlanta has built a double-digit lead in every game during its winning streak, and improved to 33-1 this season when up by at least 10 points.Amazingly, the Hawks have already matched their win total for all of last season, when they slipped into the playoffs as the No. 8 seed with a 38-44 record. And its not even the All-Star break. Were trying to grow and improve, said coach Mike Budenholzer, who will lead the East in New York. We want to keep our mindset there, just play each night, go out there and compete. Thats been good for us so far.TIP-INSBrooklyn: The bus carrying Hollins got caught in traffic trying to get to Philips Arena and didnt arrive until 6:43 p.m. for the 8 p.m. tipoff. The Canadian butterfly specialist won gold in the womens 200-metre final at the Commonwealth Games to complete a remarkable comeback after being diagnosed with a career-threatening anxiety disorder in 2011. Lacroix was having a difficult time in the leadup to the London Olympics and found herself constantly on edge as the pressure to make the team mounted following a string of poor results. The Pont-Rouge, Que., native eventually sought help, and it started her on a path to the top of the podium at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre. "When I was diagnosed with anxiety, I wasnt sure if I could ever go in the (starting) blocks again," said the 30-year-old Lacroix. "I took it step by step. I did one race and then I made the Olympic team. "Now to be able to race some of the fastest girls in the world and win is just so incredible. I know how hard it was to get back to this level so now I appreciate it even more." Lacroix said she seriously contemplated quitting the sport in her darkest moments, but decided to continue after lengthy discussions with coaches, officials and team doctors. "The main goal was for me to be healthy and swimming at that level, its not for everybody, and you need to be healthy to do it," said the two-time Olympian. "Everybody was fine with whichever decision I took." Lacroix touched the wall first in a time of two minutes 7.61 seconds on Monday, but initially wasnt sure if she had done enough to get her first gold at the Commonwealth Games. "I was really confused. For some reason I couldnt see the board -- I couldnt see my name or my time," she said. "I turned and I saw that there was one light on my block, so that my meant I won. I also had the TV camera in my face so that was a pretty good cue." Aimee Willmott of England was second in 2:08.07, while Australias Maddie Groves captured bronze in 2:08.44. Katerine Savard -- who won the 100-metre butterfly earlier in the competition -- led for the first 100 metres, but the Pont-Rouge native faded late and finished eight. Lacroix won bronze in the 100-metre butterfly at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and took home a silver in the 200-metre event four years ago. She was fifth halfway through Mondays race and third with 50 metres to go before kicking things into another gear to bring home Canadas third gold medal in the pool. "I expected a tight race and it was," said Lacroix. "Its just an amazing feeling. I really wanted gold. I already have bronze and a silver in the Commonwealth Games so its a very special thing to get the gold tonight."; Lacroixs victory was Canadas second podium finish of the night after Brittany MacLean won bronze in the womens 800-metre freestyle.dddddddddddd The 20-year-old from Toronto smashed the Canadian record in the event with a time of 8:20.91 for her second medal at the Games following a silver in the 4x200-metre freestyle relay. "I was just really looking towards to getting a medal," said MacLean, who lowered her own national mark by exactly four seconds. "I had so much fun getting the silver the other night with the relay team, but I really wanted to do one individually. "I knew I was capable of a really good swim. Ive been working hard all year. I just wanted to put it together when it mattered." Jazz Carlin of Wales won the gold in 8:18.11 to set a Commonwealth Games record, while New Zealands Lauren Boyle was second in 8:20.59. MacLean, who finished fifth in Thursdays 200-metre freestyle and will race in the 400-metre freestyle on Tuesday, said chopping the Canadian record by such a wide margin didnt come as a complete shock. "I wouldnt have told you that I was necessarily going to go that fast but knew that it was possible," she said. "You have to believe in yourself just as strongly as you believe in your training and believe in everything youve done. I went in here with the mindset that I was capable of racing those girls and I think I put up a good fight. Ill take bronze, definitely." Swimming is a young persons sport as many of the competitors in Glasgow have shown, but Lacroix seems to be getting better with age now that shes healthy. "I cannot control what the other girls are doing," she said. "All I can do is control me and I think I can be faster than when I was younger. I think I gave those girls a pretty good race tonight."
